Why won't people stop being so protective about Travis Barker?
It's obvious as 1+2 that he's not all that but some people just won't fucking get it. Sure, he can play some fast fills, but so can millions of school band geeks, and so can Mike Portnoy. Now to be able to play around 60 time signature changes in a song AND accentuate notes amidst all that, that's fucking true talent. I suck at first-person shooters apparently because I spam too much. Travis Barkers sucks because he just mindlessly spams and doesn't really care when to, or not to hit.
There is a saying: 百聞不如一見 which roughly means "seeing once is better than hearing 100 times". So see for yourself and decide who's the better.
Here's Travis Barker, whacking away retardedly, almost exclusively at the snares...
And here's Mike Portnoy. Notice how he utilises various cymbals and china and how graceful his playing is.
Not to mention the insane time signatures he has to count when playing this particular song.
There are opinions and there are facts. This isn't subjective. It's the truth. Nothing more. What gets me fired up and biased is the douchebags who deny the simple fact. That Barker, as good as he may be, is not better than the likes of Neil Peart or Mike Portnoy. I doubt he'll ever be...
My friend, that's so true...
ReplyDeleteits obvious youre a mike portnoy fan boy and have probably had arguements with people about this using your exact arguements displayed here...for one thing, both are great drummers for their respected genres...in terms of whos a better drummer, you cant compare them...meaning travis barker would be awful doing prog and portnoy would be bad at punkrock/alternative. I feel your post is simply your opinion ...BTW is playing in 60 different time signatures really that great of thing? Who cares
ReplyDeleteYeah I agree with you Guy, you can't compare them. I mean, Travis Barker is a retarded son of a punk-ass fuckwit without any sort of musical talent whatsoever, while Portnoy is absolutely brilliant in every way. Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.
ReplyDeleteHaha its all good Hamdog lol
ReplyDeleteBoth are talented, I personally hate Travis Barker, not because of the guy, just because I think his things are very boring to play and he just never impressed me in a song or live, Mike does that all the time even if he's not the greatest drummer in the world, just the way he knocks his rims on the snare in Endless Sacrifice, its like the purest rim knockings i've heard and serious, his playing is pure in every details. But it's just me, I must admit I used to play stuff like the beginning of Not Now from Blink when I was younger.
ReplyDeleteWhy does everyone have such a boner for Mike Portnoy? And what on earth led you to believe you could compare him to Neil Peart? Travis is a great drummer, so is Mike. Travis is playing a 5 piece set with a few cymbals (in the video above) and Mike is playing a giant set, not to mention you picked a shitty Barker vid and a great quality Portnoy vid. They're both good at their genres but Mike is nowhere near Neil Peart in any genre and I'm almost certain Neil would make Portnoy look like a child if felt like playing prog. Go look at some Thomas Lang videos also. Portnoy isn't that awesome.
ReplyDeleteHmm let me have a look at the date when I posted this... "Wednesday, December 10, 2008"
ReplyDeleteYeah, old stuff is old. Fail troll.
I have already seen Thomas Lang, and I don't know if you fell for the gimmicks he puts on while playing or if you're captivated by his actual playing. I just don't dig it. It's like 8 finger tapping on a guitar - looks impossible, it gets boring after 4 bars.
I picked a shitty Travis Barker video because that was the best quality one out there at the time. The rest were webcam quality and had even shittier playing in it.
ANYWAY, the point is that you're missing the point. I wasn't comparing Portnoy to Peart. I was comparing Portnoy to Barker so I'm not even gonna bother retorting on your "OH NEIL PEART IS THE BEST DRUMMER EVER MIKE PORTNOY CAN’T EVEN KEEP UP WITH NEIL’S DICKCHEESE" bullshit. Because it’s not what's in contention here.
